Bike shop opens on Adelaide street, to sell bikes and helmets

The first bike shop in Australia has opened in Adelaide’s inner-north suburbs.

The Bike Shop in the CBD, located at the corner of St Vincent and Fitzroy streets, was named after former Brisbane Broncos footballer Shaun Walker.

Owner Sam Jones says he wanted to create a safe and friendly place for riders to buy, sell and trade their bikes.

“It was a bit of a shock when I was first approached about it, I’m really happy to see this happening,” he said.

“I think the whole bike shop concept is one of the things that will help keep cyclists safer.”

I hope people will see it as something that they can come into, not just as a convenience store but as a safe, convenient place for people to shop.

Owner Sam says the concept of a bike shop has brought the inner-city community together The shop will open on Monday and will sell bike parts, helmets, pedals, saddlebags and apparel.

It’s expected to sell between 10 and 20 bikes per day.
